Charles Augusts Peabody's Uncle Jessie was a minister, and not all together a successful one. He was somewhat overbearing in his Christianity. He had preached at several parishes and hadn’t lasted over six months at any of them. Unfortunately for him he had it in his mind that he didn’t try hard enough and became even more overbearing.  This was his condition when he was corresponding with Charles in the 1860s during the war years. He made it a spiritual goal to persuade his nephew to go...

Though it gave a place for listing the number of children in each household, this wasn't used as the primary focus for these volumes was assessing the property.  If the real estate was to be exempted from taxes for any particular reason, this was noted. ...

Records for the South Danvers and later, Peabody Almshouse include the Register from 1868-1905. Note there are many blank pages in the book and they have not be scanned. The almshouse was located on Lynnfield Street and was on the former Nathaniel Nurse farm, which was more than 200 acres. The house was not built until 1844 and was a red brick and granite building.. The building was used by the City of Peabody until 1963. The property was later rezoned and became the Peabody Industrial Park.
